What ChatGPT Gets Right, and Where It Guesses
Ask ChatGPT for a haircut and you'll get sensible general advice: add height on top for a round face, soften the jaw for a square one. The trouble is the first step. To pick a cut, it needs your face shape, and from a photo ChatGPT can only describe your face in words. It can't measure the width of your forehead against your jaw or the length of your face against its width, which is how face shape is defined.
So it either asks you to work out your shape yourself, or it guesses from a description. Both are a weak base for a haircut you'll live with for months.
How Ollie Stylist Measures Your Face
Ollie Stylist is a free app that adds face measurement to ChatGPT. Attach a straight-on selfie and ask "what's my face shape?" or "what haircut would suit me?". Ollie maps 478 points on your face, measures the key ratios (face length to width, forehead to cheekbones to jaw) and scores all 7 shapes: oval, round, square, oblong, heart, diamond and triangle.
Then it picks the 3 best haircuts for that shape. For each one you get:
- Why it suits you, in one line.
- What to ask the barber or stylist, in words you can read out at the chair.
- Glasses frames and beard styles that balance the same shape.
If you tell it more (hair type, how much styling you'll do, a receding hairline, your age), it re-ranks the cuts. Curly and coily cuts, for example, only rise to the top once it knows your hair type.
No Photo? Name Your Shape
If you'd rather not share a photo, ask "best haircut for a round face" or "haircuts for an oval face, men, wavy hair". Ollie gives the same 3 cuts, barber wording, glasses and beards for the shape you name, free and unlimited. Not sure of your shape? The what is my face shape guide shows how to check in a mirror.
How Accurate Is Face Shape From One Photo?
Honestly, it's a guide, not a verdict. When the Ollie team tested two different photos of the same celebrity, the top face shape matched about a third of the time, well above chance but far from certain. Angle, lighting, hair over the forehead and even expression all move the measurements. Professional stylists disagree with each other too: some well-known people are listed under two different shapes by different sources.
That's why Ollie scores every shape, not just one. When two shapes are close, it says so ("oval, close to oblong"), and its haircut picks are weighted across both. A cut that suits both shapes is a safer choice than one that only suits your top guess.

How to Add Ollie Stylist
- In ChatGPT, open Apps, search for Ollie and select Connect.
- If it isn't listed for you yet, add it by URL with Developer mode (Settings, Apps & Connectors, Advanced settings) using
https://www.ollieml.com/mcp/stylist. - Ask "what haircut suits me?" with a selfie attached, or name your face shape.
In Claude, add the same URL as a custom connector. Claude doesn't pass chat photos to connectors yet, so pick your selfie with the upload button in Ollie's card. Full steps are on the Ollie in ChatGPT and Claude page.
Outfits Too
The same app dresses a realistic AI model in real clothes: 81 pieces from 37 brands, 4 body types and 6 looks. Ask "dress the athletic male model for a job interview" or "show me an old money outfit" and you get the outfit as a picture, with prices and shop links, and chips to change the body type, look or occasion in place. With Ollie Pro, it can try any haircut or outfit on your own photo.
Prefer a bigger screen? Everything works in the full Ollie Stylist editor on the website, including a live face scan.
Before You Book the Cut
Take the barber wording with you, word for word, and a photo of the cut on someone with similar hair. Clippers numbers, how much length to keep on top and whether to taper or square the neckline matter more than the name of the style. If you're between two shapes, start with the cut that suits both, and go shorter on the next visit once you've seen how it grows out.
Face shape isn't the only thing that matters. Your hair's texture and density, your cowlicks and how long you'll spend styling each morning can rule a cut out even when it suits your shape. Mention them, to Ollie and to your barber.
